Emerald Fur

January 07, 2013 15 Comments

Hello! Welcome to the  first sketch of 2013, swathed in emerald fur. I figured what better way to start fresh than with the pantone color of the year?

This sketch is part of a new sketch book I unwrapped on Christmas morning. I immediately fell in love with its delicately gold tipped pages and gorgeous geometric patterned cover.

Which got me to thinking... a sketch book this beautiful before it's even been used would become a treasure once it's been filled with artwork. What would one sell a treasure like this for? ... What if I started selling sketch books? ... Is that a thing? Not a published replica of a sketch book... but the actual physical thing I sketched in, day after day.

I mean talk about a unique coffee table book, right? What do you think?

The wheels are turning. New year, new ideas and beautiful, gold tipped pages to sketch them on.

You would have the bidding war to end all bidding wars on your hands so that one of us could end up owning that book!
Have you considered creating an anthology of your work? Publish all blog posts on The Sketchbook by year? I’m toying with doing that for myself once I hit year one :)

That is an outstanding idea!!! You should do it!!! If you are not too attached to the book that is…

Beautiful sketch!! And as far as selling the book- I would alert your readers that you’re going to put it on ebay. There is no telling what you would make, and I would absolutely bid away!

I would absolutely buy a sketched in sketchbook from you. It would definitely be the perfect coffee table book in my house to add to the other fashion and art books.

Wow, this is such an opposite thinking pattern to my usual creative urges- usually when someone gifts me an exceptionally beautiful sketchbook, I’m AFRAID to sketch at all in it (in fear that I’ll ruin it with drawings that are below its standard)!

Ahh, the plight of the OCD perfectionist sketcher- kudos to you for not succumbing to it, though!

How many pages does it have? Can you imagine the panic!!! It would be pretty incredible to have an original sketch book. I don’t think I could let anyone get near it=0)

I think it is a GREAT idea for a sketch book! Your drawings are AMAZING, the quality, the colors, so why Not?? In the meanwhile you could do a GIVEAWAY in your blog, by offering us, your followers a sketch by you. What do you think of my idea? I would love to have a drawing by you my dear!!! Kisses from cold Greece!!!

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read your post this morning… This is what I’m working on now! I’m going to gather my watercolor sketchbooks as well as design new ones (interiors/inspirations) and place them maybe on my blog or etsy or both. I would love to have yours! – Kimberly

I LOVE the idea, but I would be perfectly content with copied images of the sketches bound in a coffee table book. Maybe I’m just a hoarder in the closet, but I can’t imagine being an artist and giving away the little sketches I drew whenever inspiration struck me.. ;)

I actually have seen books on artists’ sketchbooks at Barnes and Nobles. It was a book, but each page or two it was an insert from some artist’s sketchbook. It was pretty awesome, like looking into their world or seeing what’s in their head. lol
