great escape

So, they've named a blizzard, "nemo"... Can we just stop and talk about that for a second. Nemo? Like the fish?

I give up. Weather people, you win, you are the funniest.

Despite the funny name, this storm is actually kind of a mess. It is snowing up and down and sideways all at once. I am preparing to suit up in my extreme weather gear and trek back from the studio to my apartment to wring my hands about how much this reminds me of hurricane sandy and experience a confusing cocktail of emotions - first surging elation and then crippling terror.

Right now I'm still in the honeymoon phase with the storm. It's cozy and exciting and everyone is giddy and has that glint in their eyes like they're about to eat  A LOT of carbs.

But, undoubtedly, this will wear off when things start to get real in a few hours when we are supposed to get a foot of snow and the flight instinct will start kick in. Nothing like being snowed in to make me want to make a dramatic escape. I'll wish I could jet off somewhere warm and exotic, preferably on a vespa. Doesn't this little lady have the perfect escapist attitude? I sketched her for Dear Stella's Italian Collection.

Stay safe this weekend if you're in the area (meaning the north east of america) and keep dreaming of mint colored escape vehicles and gelato in the sun. Spring will be here soon!

Dear Stella

October 26, 2011 5 Comments

introducing Dear Stella, a new fabric design company! Dear Stella launched its new website and I helped out with this "About Page" illustration of the Stella girl. She's described as "an inspiring and independent spirit. Creative, adventurous, and hopelessly romantic. She loves beautiful paper, a perfectly wrapped gift, and always sends handwritten thank you notes." sounds like my kinda girl! So go visit the Dear Stella site to see their beautiful fabrics. the Lanikai collection is my favorite. I want to put the Gridlock pattern on everything.
