don't you just love fall

October 26, 2015 2 Comments

Is it just me or is fall having a moment this year? Apple, pumpkin, assorted gourd harvesting seems to be at an all time high. And dressing the part is an essential part of the equation. In order to reap the bounty of the season, one must be clothed in the manner of a British lord. Tis a good time to be a manufacturer of sporting lifestyle gear. Acting like a member of the landed gentry has never been more in vogue.

I'm buying into this in full force, dressing as if I've just hitched my horse to a nearby citibike station and am popping in to pick up some fresh ammunition for my hunting rifle.

I am now the proud owner of two Barbour coats, one quilted, one waxed, just in case I need to engage in a fox-hunt on my way to the studio.

I am however, sadly, not in possession of the ability to ride a horse or fire any kind of sporting weaponry. But, they say fake it til you make it, right?

October

Time to change the calendar again! And this month is brought to you by my love of J.Crew!

October girl is so fall cozy with her layered fall patterns and textures and obedient doxie, I need to catch up with her. I'm still in my warm weather wardrobe - trying to wear the darkest colored of my summer clothes for a little longer. Maybe this weekend I'll take the plunge.

September Social

September 26, 2013 1 Comment

Pop the champagne, it's time to toast the new season!

This fall I launch my 2014 calendar, marking almost ten years of Inslee Calendars! And this fall, we have the addition of a new studio mate here at the NYC headquarters... Roxy Owens, the designer and genius behind Society Social. So now, I have the honor of sharing the space with my favorite PR firm, Goodworks PR and Roxy too!

In honor of the arrival of both 12 new months of illustrations and one new fabulous co-worker,  my lovely studio mates and I are hosting a little September Social this evening in our space!

This is the invitation illustration I designed. Ok, now time to run call the caterer and arrange some flowers. Wish us luck! I'll post pictures next week from the event.

Fall back to reality

It's fall! Time to step away from the beat up old flip-flops and shorts, pack away the little-white-dresses and put on your transitional wardrobe. Let's buckle down for some serious work and a seriously packed social schedule. September is such an energizing time, isn't it?

This sketch was created for The Simply Luxurious Life to celebrate Shannon's services as a wardrobe stylist. Wouldn't you want to hire her? After all, she styled this sketch!

Frieda

September 19, 2012 2 Comments

While shuffling through a pile of papers this morning I discovered this shy little illustration. I completely forgot I had painted her! Love when that happens!

Doesn't she look like a fair skinned Frieda Pinto? Just a little bit?

She's wearing the perfect September Saturday outfit. This is that magic time of year when you can wear heavy clothes like long sleeved nautical sweaters and boyfriend jeans just for fun, not because you are actually really cold.

ps. buy a print!

pumpkin spice flats

September 13, 2012 5 Comments

The crisp air in NYC this week is making me crave pumpkin spice. Not lattes. Those are terrible. I will never understand how people get excited about those. For me, pumpkin spice is a color, not a flavor. Wouldn't a pair of burnt orange croc ballet flats be delicious crunching through leaves en route to get a normal latte? mmmm...
