DC illustration Inslee By Design Old Town Alexandria sea of shoes The Sketch Book Zoe Boutique

Four sketches I did for a boutique in Old Town Alexndria called Zoe. If you haven't ever been to Old Town, you must go! Its DC's best kept and most charming little secret. Susan, the store's creator, asked me to come up with illustrations that reflected the colors and feel of the clothes in her shop. I pulled from some of my favorite looks right now - stripes, maxi dresses, trouser jeans, and a classic shot of Jane from Sea of Shoes for the final one. These four pieces are now framed throughout the store, I can't wait to visit...

Above is a modern-day Dorothy, fresh out of a tornado, wearing the Cherbourg Skirt from Fabricly and her signature combo - red heels and ankle socks (don't bother with the link actually, its sold out because The Man Repeller tweeted about it) It is actually now just occurring to me that Dorothy may have been one of the original Man Repellers with those socks in her Ruby Red Slippers... how perfect So anyway, interestingly enough, this illustration came out looking just like me. I am always surprised when I "meet" the girls as they come to...

Fashion Week illustration Street Style The Sketch Book

Thanks to the recent fashion week season and resulting beautiful street style imagery that has just hit the bloggosphere, my desk top is cluttered to the brim with images I've saved haphazardly off of tumblr and twitter etc. Images that I've seen just at a glance and loved and saved in haste to rediscover later. This morning I opened them all up and found myself looking at a layered collage of little accessories and moments of women on the streets living their lives in beautiful detail. Almost none of the images I'd saved were from runway collections. And then it...
