hello! here is a picture of final product - national stationery show booth 2169. this is where I've spent the week, meeting and greeting and getting inspired by all the amazing talent on display around me.
thanks to everyone who came by to see me!
i'll be back soon with new illustrations to share with you all!
Hello! A quick snapshot of what today was like while I prepared for NSS and got booth 2169 all dressed up. More to follow tomorrow.
This week I'm preparing for the National Stationery Show. I love taking this time out of my normal schedule to indulge in all the crafting/DIY adventures that it takes to build a trade show booth design. It's definitely a hair-up, old-tshirt-on kind of week. I love it! Especially because I've recently discovered the SOCK BUN.
I think I may be the late to the sock bun party, because when I typed "sock bun" into pinterest about fifteen thousand examples of how to make one came up. But...
In case you don't know about this marvelous hair management technique:
Step one: cut the toe off a sock and roll it into a "doughnut" shape
Step two: Put the doughnut on your pony tail, about half way down and spread the hair around it. Tuck the ends of your hair under the sock doughnut and roll it down into the most perfect bun you have ever seen.
Step three: enjoy the jealous stares
feeling very inspired by black&white today!
I'm working a lot of these crisp opposites into my design for my National Stationery Show booth. The show in two weeks, I can't believe it!
Hello! The National Stationery Show is such a whirlwind, I don't think I've ever smiled so much in one day before or been so impressed by so many acts of creativity all in one place. Yesterday was a successful first-ever opening day for me. I met so many enthusiastic people and even wrote orders!
The day began with torrential rain, but we charged forth despite the weather to go sell some paper, all bright eyed, bush tailed and color coordinated....
to discover that despite our speculations and fretting, the booth was still standing and in splendid condition if I may say so. (Please refer to the before picture to be further impressed)
After arranging flowers and my sample products and smiling through an elaborate photo shoot there was a moment of are they coming? are they coming?
while everyone stood poised and ready for the buyers to come shop. While waiting I met this friendly man/giant book and considered asking my helpers to wear similar outfits and go trolling the aisles looking for new business...
but alas when my amazing friends arrived I decided to opt for allowing my them not to dress as giant books but instead as cute people... (although, now that I reconsider, if I'd made them walk around wearing giant blow ups of my cards, they probably would have loved that)
Aren't they delightful? I couldn't have done it without them and their energy. I really do feel so lucky today to have so many supportive people in my life. They've helped my dream come true for this show!
What an exhilarating day! All in all a fabulous start. Can't wait to see what today holds. Off to the convention center, wish me luck!
Hi from NYC! Yesterday was wildly productive for NSS prepping. Here is our before picture (check out my mom's buff yoga arms)
and about an hour - I'm serious ONE hour - later this was the "after" scene. Are we efficient or what!?
be amazed. if you think this was easy to construct...
Look how thrilled I am with my DIY project and my new official NSS badge necklace...
look at that face. So full of hope and pride. Who wouldn't buy cards from me?
Ok guys, today is the final set up day! I hope we finish early so I can snoop around all the other amazing booths. There is seriously so much incredible inspiration and creativity jam-packed into this place. Its a hot bed of attention to detail and I couldn't be more excited to explore.
Happy Birthday to Briana, one of my most beautiful friends, inside and out! Back when we were in college she was OBSESSED with the color pink. Shes since grown out of this phase, but I couldn't resist giving her a touch of fuchsia as a nod to the endearing memory of her all pink freshman dorm room!
Alright ladies (and gents... are there any gents?) I'm off to the National Stationery Show in the morning and I haven't even packed.
I will keep you all up to date with the exciting goings on in NYC with lots of pictures. If you are in the city and going to the show YOU BETTER COME SEE ME. Booth 1366. DO IT.
Have a wonderful weekend!
