hello. so, when it comes to illustrating you i will make you as skinny or as stylish or as sassy in your pose as you might imagine yourself to be. i will make it you, only better. but when it comes to illustrating me, i can't quite get there. i just did this illustration of myself for a little interview feature and it turned out so honest, not nearly as inventive as my usual work. i must feel like i can't bend the truth when it comes to what i really look like...

I'm so excited, I'm so excited, guess what today is! Its announcing the new calendar day!
as in the new CALENDAR IS HERE!
Behold a little glimpse of what 2012 has in store for you...
Can you believe how organized I am this year? It is ready and waiting for you so many months before 2012 is even on the horizon. I might just get started on 2013. But then again, we should probably wait to see how things pan out with the end of the Mayan calendar before I go to too much trouble...
Anyway, I would like to send an overarching thank you into the internet for all the beautiful images that inspired the new calendar. This was the first year I that read digital magazines like RUE and Matchbook Mag and of course so many wonderful blogs and used Pinterest to organize my inspiration sources for how I wanted each month to look. I used to actually tear things out of real magazines. I know, such a cave woman. This new method of gathering idea sources has done wonders for my inspiration. So, this ones for you, internet, I couldn't have done it without you.
Ok enough sentimental rambling about how much I love Pinterest. The Calendar is here, it is set up much like in previous years - 12 individual 8x10" pages packaged, illustration above, month dates below inside a clear plastic sleeve. I can talk about it forever, but it wont compare to actually holding it in your hand, so - order away!
Happy calendar changing day everyone! This month illustration was inspired by a look Michelle Williams wore, any one remember it?
Good morning! So this weekend I am taking a trip BACK to DC. I know, I know, I just got here. Do you know what I'm most excited about (this is sort of lame).... going to visit my favorite patisserie. I mean it will be wonderful to see friends and family, but I have really missed my dear little coffee shop so very much. New York is by no means lacking in the patisserie department, but your first love never really leaves you. Any one who knows me knows how much I love this place and will try to drag you there with me all the time. I think I'll have to get both a plain croissant this weekend annnnd a chocolate one!
This illustration is part of a collection of pieces i have been working on for Jacques Levine - a slipper company with an impressive history. I'm not talking about big fluffy obnoxious slippers, I'm talking delicate, elegant ballet slippers that make lounging around one's home seem like a luxurious indulgence. The company was founded by Jacques Levine's father in 1936. As I worked with Jacque's grandson who is rebranding the slipper business with a new line of slippers debuting this fall I learned a lot of the cherished heritage that gives the JL brand its classic elegance. For example, fun fact: Jacques Levine was the first shoe designer to introduce women's espadrilles to America!
I worked with the JL team to create illustrations that captured the vibe of their by-line, "pour votre domaine". We carefully brainstormed illustrated scenes of women in their peaceful and beautiful interior environments, wearing the new line of slippers. It was a cool creative process to start imagining the personal, thoughtful details of the homes of women who have mastered the refined practice of wearing slippers.
This illustration depicts one of their most iconic heeled slippers.
Stay tuned for more of my Jacques Levine illustrations and for the launch of their new line this fall. And in the meantime, follow Jacques Levine on Twitter
