I N S L E E \ F A R I S S
I find joy in painting the world I see around me. My brush brings whimsical lightness into everything I put down on paper (or canvas, or leather bag, or dog collar, or fresco... you get it).
For the past decade I've worked with wonderful clients - both private individual commissions and for large companies. Each day offers up unexpected new opportunities for creativity. It is truly a joy to start each new day with a blank piece of paper.
Contact me to visit my studio or to discuss a new project, I can't wait to hear what you have in store for me!
I keep a nonsensical and jumbled list of sparks of ideas in the ‘reminders’ app on my phone.
One of these ‘sparks’ reads: tonal grey busts?... question mark and all. As I tapped it out into my list - probably at one am, half asleep, I was unsure if it was even a viable vein of thought to explore.
Then, weeks passed and turned into months. I was caught in a hamster wheel of day-to-day nuisances following the new year, constantly fighting to stay ahead of a to-do list, but feeling the siren’s call of the nonsensical list-of-sparks all the while.
Whenever I stay away from carving out space for free form creativity for too long, I feel pressure build in my head and heart. Like a vice tightening (Sometimes I’ve stayed away for years. Decades. In retrospect it explains a lot) so I knew that if I stopped the to-do list and painted just one thing from the list-of-sparks, I’d feel clouds lift and pressure ease.
Enter the GRACES.
I felt such a physically affirming rush of energy from sculpting paint and water and ink into these giant rolls of paper. This collection burst from spark to wild fire. They unlocked a new layer of understanding of a concept I’ve been trying to demystify for years now - the human form - seeing it in a new light by examining some of the oldest, classical studies as harbored in the hallowed halls of the great museums.
This group of paintings will be listed on my site on April 4th.
